Knives in May: A Pittsburgh Tradition!

It all started with the coronavirus.  Things shut down. We honed our knives, packed some beer, and headed out to trail…you couldn’t be too careful in those uncertain times!  The great outdoors was still ours to escape to!

Hare: Tight E and Muff

Where: Emmsworth, PA

Details:  Many fine features will leave you loving this trail.  It’ll be fun!  It’ll be different!  It’ll be…quarantine style.  Bring a knife! This is the last full quarantine trail.

These trails are to revisit some of the PQH3 trails…the ones that were precursors for where we are today. We’re still hashing and celebrating getting this far through a pandemic while maintaining some of our sanity, most of our hashing, and all of us hashing together (separately) as a group! It wasn’t a short road to get to where we are today…it was fraught with questions, analysis, touch decisions, and ultimately: coming together to do what we do best….and that is: HASH!
When the few of us started, we had an idea that we could keep hashing…after a fashion. We knew getting some time outside of the house would be good for everyone in our community. Keeping moving, doing some of the same things we have done for years. Weekends were the time to do it! Staggered timeslots are not fantastic for the shorter weeknights! The idea grew, more hashers joined, and we came together to keep on hashing, quarantine style. Together. As multiple kennels acting as one. As people united by the simple facts: we can hash after a fashion, we WANT to hash, and we want to keep our group together through one of the roughest times we’ve gone through.
Just don’t forget a knife out there!

Hare: Cuffed And Sphincter

Where: Rennerdale

Details: Quarantine slots available from 10:00am until 1:00pm. Pack leaves at 2:00pm.

Ahoy, Swashbucklers!
As we step on deck for the first time in a year, adrift at sea in a world torn by pandemic, we know what it is that we must do. Plunder!! … and drink. Let’s not forget to drink.
This will be a real, live, in-person trail. With other humans. And supplied beer (BYOB if you prefer) and (individually-wrapped) snacks and a circle! The Rennerdale Panhandle trail head has a small parking lot (8-10 cars), but parking up the sides of the street is common.
Trail is short*, flat**, and shiggy-free***.
*More like medium-ish, with a perceived length on the longer side
**Would a pirate lie?
***Seriously, who writes this shit? True trail is ~6 miles, with some hefty hills early on and plenty of mud and shiggy. But it’s worth it to see the sights of Rennerdale.

Federal Galley has 1/2 off happy hour from 4-6pm if anyone wants to get an early start. We’re hoping to get multiple tables on the backside of the Federal Galley patio and should be easy to spot in our riot of colors. Trail is outdoors and dog-friendly.

TN@ #62: Schoolhouse and Green Mile @ Southside Dog Park
Jun 23 @ 6:30 pm
We had a clever and informative posting that apparently didn’t get saved. We blame it on the faulty wifi at Nadine’s and definitely not user error from the hares’ post-scouting beers at Nadine’s. Definitely not the beers.
Please join Green Mile and Schoolhouse Cock for a nice romp around Southside. Trail starts at the dog park under the Birmingham bridge. No bar unfortunately at the dog park, BYOB for prelube. As you know, June 23 is National Pecan Sandies day, so dress up as your favorite Pecan Sandie. True trail is around 3.2 miles. Dog friendly. You may want a headlamp in case we don’t finish trail in record time. And it should be a perfect night for a walk with the ladies!!!

TN@ #63: Six Cooter @ The Saloon of Mt Lebanon
Jul 21 @ 6:30 pm
Start: The Saloon of Mt Lebanon
622 Washington Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15228
Parking: there is free street parking down the side streets. A parking lot off Academy road and a parking garage across the street from The Saloon at Cedar Blvd. (it’s a few dollars $3-ish).
While trail-itself is pet friendly, the bar(s) are not. Sorry. The Saloon usually has their windows open though unless it’s storming and pet are allowed outside. Circle will not allow pets. If you need better advice on parking due to this please PM me!
Hash cash: Since there is a contra stop the typical $5 hash cash is donation only and any proceeds are on the pay it fwd train that was started last month. Those funds can continue to grow for the Tn@ charity of choice.

TN@ #64: Black Eyed Penis and Bitch in Heat @ Braddock Trail Trailhead, Frick Park (next to C.L.A.S.S.)
Aug 18 @ 6:30 pm
Once upon a time, BP and BiH planned to hare a Tn@ trail then some stupid virus came along and mucked it all up. BP has had this trail in mind for over a year to get back at us for naming her such a shitty name (or maybe that’s not the reason). Cum join us as we gallivant around the east end and see some (hopefully) new sites along with some old hash favorites.
BYOB pre-trail beverages if you want ’em. All other beverages will be provided by the hares.
Shiggy and PI? You’re probably safe from PI unless you decide to make your own trail. You may want bug spray.
Dogs OK? Yes but they must be kept on leash.
Kids OK? Yes as long as they don’t mind our wonderful singing at circle.
Hash cash: $5
PayPal preferred; please include your hash name: tnatpghh3@gmail.com
COVID-19 concerns: Trail is entirely outdoors. If you are not vaccinated, wear a mask when near others. If you feel sick, stay the frick home!
