Sand Turkey: A PITT ANNUAL TRADITION

What the heck is Sand Turkey? That is a good question. Sand Turkey originated during PITT’s first year of existence way back in 2013… when we would pass bottles around at shot stops, play slap the bag, and make out with random folks without fear. Oh, the
good old days. Speaking of PITT’s first year, have you ever read the PITT Charter? You should. There are rules, and you could be quizzed during trail and will be shamed if you don’t know the rules. https://www.pgh-h3.com/wp/pitth3-charter/

So, Sand Turkey… What is it? This annual PITT tradition of running a short, flat, no fun, shiggy-free trail while drinking WAY too much to escape the clutches of the hangover monster the next day while having to deal with your family while paying homage to the glorious Sand Turkey. Legend is the night before Thanksgiving, the elusive Sand Turkey comes to Pittsburgh and runs amuck for one night. How did this tradition start? Well, the lovely, Sir Vix, is the reason for the season. This is the first Sand Turkey she is not haring, and she requested that we get hammered. We will do our best to
honor her wishes. Sir Vix created this mythical creature and event to save face during a misunderstanding. Someday when she is back and town, buy her a drink if you really want to hear more of the story. The important thing is that the tradition lives on on! Original Co-hare ManGurglar has hared almost every Sand Turkey since, and she has other veteran Sand Turkey hare, The Black Clap and longtime hasher but virgin Sand Turkey Hare, PMS. So you should be in good hands and should plan on
taking an Uber home.

Bring your friends, virgins, and offbeat coworkers or a stroll through Millvale while chasing mythical Sand Turkeys. Bring money for contra stops and plan to hang out after trail. It’s not going to be fun at all.

Meet up at 6:30 PM at Sidelines for drinks. Hares will be blessed at 7PM hash time sharp and if the Sand Turkeys judge us favorably, you’ll have a pre-holiday adventure you have probably been on before… or at least dreamt about as a kid.

Hash cash will be donated to the Pittsburgh Food Bank, so bring at least $5.00, more if you’d like. Do not bring food donations! Cash (and PayPal) donations only this year. Thanks!
