Knives In May 3 – Tight E and Muff, #1966q
May 15 @ 10:00 am – May 16 @ 6:30 pm

Knives in May: A Pittsburgh Tradition!

It all started with the coronavirus.  Things shut down. We honed our knives, packed some beer, and headed out to trail…you couldn’t be too careful in those uncertain times!  The great outdoors was still ours to escape to!

Hare: Tight E and Muff

Where: Emmsworth, PA

Details:  Many fine features will leave you loving this trail.  It’ll be fun!  It’ll be different!  It’ll be…quarantine style.  Bring a knife! This is the last full quarantine trail.

These trails are to revisit some of the PQH3 trails…the ones that were precursors for where we are today. We’re still hashing and celebrating getting this far through a pandemic while maintaining some of our sanity, most of our hashing, and all of us hashing together (separately) as a group! It wasn’t a short road to get to where we are today…it was fraught with questions, analysis, touch decisions, and ultimately: coming together to do what we do best….and that is: HASH!
When the few of us started, we had an idea that we could keep hashing…after a fashion. We knew getting some time outside of the house would be good for everyone in our community. Keeping moving, doing some of the same things we have done for years. Weekends were the time to do it! Staggered timeslots are not fantastic for the shorter weeknights! The idea grew, more hashers joined, and we came together to keep on hashing, quarantine style. Together. As multiple kennels acting as one. As people united by the simple facts: we can hash after a fashion, we WANT to hash, and we want to keep our group together through one of the roughest times we’ve gone through.
Just don’t forget a knife out there!

Knives In May 4 – Cuffed and Sphincter, #1967 @ Panhandle Trail Parking

Knives in May: A Pittsburgh Tradition!

It all started with the coronavirus.  Things shut down. We honed our knives, packed some beer, and headed out to trail…you couldn’t be too careful in those uncertain times!  The great outdoors was still ours to escape to!

Hare: Cuffed And Sphincter

Where: Rennerdale

Details: Quarantine slots available from 10:00am until 1:00pm. Pack leaves at 2:00pm.

Ahoy, Swashbucklers!
As we step on deck for the first time in a year, adrift at sea in a world torn by pandemic, we know what it is that we must do. Plunder!! … and drink. Let’s not forget to drink.
This will be a real, live, in-person trail. With other humans. And supplied beer (BYOB if you prefer) and (individually-wrapped) snacks and a circle! The Rennerdale Panhandle trail head has a small parking lot (8-10 cars), but parking up the sides of the street is common.
Trail is short*, flat**, and shiggy-free***.
*More like medium-ish, with a perceived length on the longer side
**Would a pirate lie?
***Seriously, who writes this shit? True trail is ~6 miles, with some hefty hills early on and plenty of mud and shiggy. But it’s worth it to see the sights of Rennerdale.

Full Moon Hash: The MLK Full Wolf Moon Hash

The MLK Full Wolf Moon Hash Monday, January 17 6:30pm, on out 7:00pm

On this Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I have a dream that one day this kennel will rise up and hare a trail on every full moon, that every set of city steps will be traversed, that heights will be scaled, and that view checks will be available to all. I have a dream that hares will not be judged by the color of the flour they choose to lay but by the quality of beer they provide on trail. And when this happens, we will raise our voices in glorious, victorious song and cry, “Drink it down, down, down!” Yes, I have a dream.

Whiff’s 30th Analversary Fool Moon Hash @ Ugly Dog Saloon
Nov 8 @ 6:30 pm

It’s Election Day on Nov. 8, so vote early and often to get those ugly dogs out of office, but elect to run the Full Beaver Moon hash that night.

30 years ago on Nov. 10, 1992 I laid my first solo trail on my 38th birthday (“The 38 Special Shoot the Moon Hash”). The trail went well until the beer stop, where my friend who’d opened his backyard for us mentioned that the starting bar was a mere 6 blocks away and everyone blew off the second half of the trail. Come out this time to see if I’ve learned anything from that cock-up in the last three decades.
Trail is A-A and extremely dog friendly except for the bar (Koko had a blast scouting with me).

Special shortcut hints for any lazy Scorpio with proof of astrological sign.

Where: Starting at Ormsby Ave. Cafe.    402 Ormsby Ave. PGH, PA 15210
On after at Moon & Rex’s house: 517 Ormsby St  Pittsburgh, PA 15210

There is plenty of parking behind his house on St Joseph St.

WHO:  ManGurglar, Defender of Peedom & Moon
WHAT TO BRING:  Headlamp, dry clothes (you never know), a drinking vessel, and cash. Trail is dog friendly.  The Bars & On after is not dog friendly.

WHY:  To celebrate 10 years of MANGURGLAR!!!!

10 YEARS OF HASHING!?  Holy shit!   My hashing story is basically a Hallmark movie, only slightly less dramatic.   If I suddenly die, then it’ll really be a Hallmark movie, but hopefully, that doesn’t happen… at least for a few more years.  I have shit to do.

Here’s my hashing story  —  After traveling for a year across the country with my sister, we heard about hashing.  Unfortunately, we never tried hashing on the road.   After moving back to PGH, I decided to go to one of the trails while my sister was visiting.   It was a Cream of Mushroom Trail on December 28, 2012.  Fool Moon the day after fresh snow.  It was freezing cold and a perfect night to hash. My sister, “Golden,” had been hashing in Pheonix, so she wasn’t a virgin.  We showed up to the start of the trail early, but no one was there, so we found a local bar in Mount Oliver to stop and grab a beer… we went into Moinks on Brownsville Rd., and the music literally stopped when we walked in.   So we played it cool, grabbed a six-pack, and quickly ran back into our car to drink before the start.

The trail started, and we ran through the woods, we drank spiked hot cocoa on trail, and I fell on the ice after accidentally following someone named Peedom the wrong way through some school.  Trail finished with circle in Moon’s basement.  I quickly got drunk as I kept wearing my hat in circle.   Strip flippy cup started, and after a while, my sister (who was driving) wanted to continue the party back in Millvale, so she invited this Defender of Peedom character who was chatting me up to come with us along with Mushroom and a couple of other hashers.    The rest of the night is pretty blurry…

Almost everyone in the hash had warned me about Peedom, but 10 years later, this Defender of Peedrom & I are somehow making it work.   We are married (on a fool moon) and have 2 beautiful but completely insane kids.  I’ve been involved in starting two new PGH kennels, traveled in Europe hashing, in various US cities, and on our honeymoon in Hawaii.  Our first child was even conceived at an interhash.   All of this amazing life is thanks to one drunken night in Mount Oliver.

So join me in celebrating me and my 10 years and if you have a virgin to bring this is a good trail!   Time to create your own destiny!   Mount Oliver… where all your dreams come true!

Trail will be mercifully short. It will also be cold, dark, and snowy, so dress appropriately and bring a light source. For the after party Moon has promised dancing, black lights, disco balls, foam, stripper poles, and a naked woman crashing into a gas station. Actually, he only mentioned having a party at his house with a black light, and I might have made up the rest. It’s going to be a good time.
